Ash Wednesday at the Cathedral

Lent began as diocesan employees attended the Ash Wednesday Mass celebrated by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio at St. James Cathedral-Basilica, Brooklyn. Concelebrants included retired Bishop Thomas V. Daily, shown above placing ashes on the forehead of Bishop DiMarzio; Auxiliary Bishop Frank Caggiano; retired Auxiliary Bishop Joseph M. Sullivan; and Msgr. John Bracken, Vicar General for Temporalities. Bishop DiMarzio preached on the virtues of humility and mortification which are to be practiced during Lent.
