Queens St. Patrick's Day Parade

Photos By Linda Busetti

Who wasn’t Irish in Rockaway when the annual Queens County St. Patrick’s Day Parade stepped off at Beach 129th St. and Newport Ave. last Saturday,

March 3.

Irish tricolors hung from porches all along the parade route and the sound of bagpipers warming up filled the air. Following Mass at nearby St. Francis de Sales Church and a break for lunch, the County Tyrone Pipe Band led the way down sunny Newport Ave.

Grand Marshal Kevin Kelly, sporting a top hat, marched shoulder to shoulder with Msgr. John Brown, pastor of St. Francis de Sales, and dignitaries including NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Families proudly attired in green cheered the Emerald Society pipe band, and contingents representing St. Francis de Sales cheerleaders and CYO, St. Rose of Lima School, St. Camillus Special Olympics, the Knights of Columbus and the Breezy Point Catholic Club Pipe and Drum Corps as they marched to the reviewing stand at Beach 94th St.
