Scouts Announce Honorees
The diocesan Catholic Committee on Scouting will hold its annual award dinner at El Caribe Country Club, Mill Basin, on Thursday, March 15, beginning at 6 p.m.
Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio will be honored with the Silver Beaver Award, Scouting’s highest honor, for his commitment to the Scouting movement.

The St. George Award will be presented to Robert (Beau) Conlon of St. Cecilia’s, Greenpoint; John P. Walsh of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Windsor Terrace; Charles Krzewski of St. Margaret’s, Middle Village; Michael Guglielmo of Catholic Charities; Msgr. David Cassato of St. Athanasius, Bensonhurst; Msgr. Edward Ryan of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Ridgewood; and Deacon Thomas Stadnik of Holy Ghost Ukrainian.
The bronze Pelican Award will be presented to Henry Zalak, Our Lady of Hope, Middle Village; Anthony Zalak, Our Lady of Hope, Middle Village; Ellen Simonsen, St. Bernard’s, Mill Basin; Msgr. Joseph Funaro, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, Forest Hills; Frank Inga, St. Athanasius, Bensonhurst; Salvatore Emanuele, St. Ann’s; Joan Paduano, Mary Queen of Heaven, Old Mill Basin; Jeanne Joyce, St. Anselm’s; Msgr. John Delendick, St. Jude, Canarsie; Father Kevin Sweeney, Diocesan Vocations Office; George Raiola, St. Athanasius; and Julie LaRosa, St. Edmund’s, Sheepshead Bay.
The Elizabeth Ann Seton Award goes to Jennifer M. Chung, St. Clare’s, Rosedale; Sister Barbara Lynch, CSJ, St. Athanasius; Mary Ellen Keough, Holy Name, Park Slope; Patricia Long, St. Athanasius; Elda Hvala, Holy Name; and Michele Buscemi, Holy Name.
The St. Ann Award will be presented to Gillian L. Murray, St. Clare, Rosedale; and Donna Czaplinski, Our Lady of Angels, Bay Ridge.
Citations for Bishop’s New Unit will be presented to Father Robert Adamo, Immaculate Heart of Mary; Father Matteo Rizzo, Our Lady of Guadalupe; Father Jamie Gigantiello, Mary Queen of Heaven; Msgr. Joseph Stafford, Holy Family, Fresh Meadows; Msgr. Edward Ryan, Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, Ridgewood; Msgr. Denis Herron, St. Teresa, Woodside; and Msgr. Richard Dunne, Corpus Christi, Woodside.
The Diocesan Service to Youth Award will be given to John DeLosa, Brooklyn Council; Douglas Jablon, Maimonides Medical Center; and Richard Martin, Greater New York Council.
For outstanding commitment to the youth of the diocese, the Bishop’s Good Scout Award will be presented to NYC Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, and State Senator Martin J. Golden of Brooklyn.
