Christophers’ President Announces Retirement

Dennis W. Heaney has retired as President of The Christophers, the Board of Directors of the Manhattan-based group announced.

Heaney, who served five years as president, had previously been Executive Publisher of The Tidings, the weekly newspaper of the Los Angeles Archdiocese.

Before that he was associate publisher of The Catholic Spirit, newspaper of the St. Paul-Minneapolis Archdiocese.

The board elected Mary Ellen Robinson as Vice President of The Christophers and placed her in charge of the organization’s day-to-day activities. She has been a staff member of The Christophers for 14 years.

Gerald M. Costello, retired editor-in-chief of Catholic New York, the newspaper of the New York Archdiocese, and a member of The Christophers’ board since 1979, will serve as Interim Director pending the selection of a new President.
