Sister Mary Imelda Buetow, RGS, 84, a member of the Sisters of the Good Shepherd for 58 years, died April 7 at Maria Regina Nursing Center, Brentwood, L.I., after suffering a massive stroke on March 17.


She was a native of St. Ignatius Loyola parish, Hicksville, L.I.


She ministered in several capacities in Peekskill, Brooklyn, and Dix Hills, L.I. She was a business teacher, provincial treasurer and secretary, and provincial councilor. She also served on the Steering Committee for General Chapters of the Congregation and in later years was an intake counselor in the family services clinic at Madonna Heights, Dix Hills, as well as an Advocate at the Marriage Tribunal in the Rockville Centre Diocese.


She is survived by her brothers, Father Harold Buetow, a retired priest of the Brooklyn Diocese, and Dr. Gerald Buetow; and her twin sister, Clare Buetow, and her sister, Irene Rabbitt.


Father Buetow was the main celebrant of the funeral Mass which was celebrated April 11 in St. Joseph’s Chapel at Madonna Heights. Burial was in the family plot in Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, L.I.
