Families to Rally Round the Rosary

A Family Rosary Rally and Picnic will be held Saturday, June 3, at Our Lady of Hope Field in Middle Village. The day is being sponsored by the Diocesan Office of Faith Formation.

The purpose of the day is to bring together families in a faith-filled environment, according to Dr. Philip A. Franco, coordinator of childhood faith formation.

Dr. Franco said that the day takes its theme from Bishop DiMarzio’s Pastoral Letter “The Family: The Hope of the New Evangelization.”

This Rosary Rally will offer families an occasion to have young children experience the community of the Church and will offer youth an opportunity to enter into personal communion with Jesus Christ.

The rally reflects a broad vision of faith formation that transcends the walls of the conventional classroom, helping to build a commitment to prayer, devotion to our Blessed Mother, an understanding of the importance of family and a life that is thoroughly centered on the Lord.

The rally will begin with the praying of the Rosary, led by Bishop DiMarzio. Each of the Luminous Mysteries will be introduced and prayed by children of various religious education programs from different parts of Brooklyn and Queens. After praying together as one Church family, the children and their parents will enjoy a picnic lunch while being entertained by music, games, face-painting and even a surprise appearance by two special cartoon characters.

“This experience and others like it offer the Church hope for the future, as we continue to give the gift of the faith to the diverse families of Brooklyn and Queens,” said Dr. Franco. “Surely then, it is providential, that the rally, reflecting our bishop’s vision articulated in his letter, is generously funded by the ‘Alive in Hope’ Foundation and graciously hosted by Our Lady of Hope parish.

“The theme of hope is woven throughout! As the Church works to form contemporary families in faith, we meet the challenges of the New Evangelization with abiding hope in the Risen Christ.”

For information on registering for the Family Rosary Rally, you may contact the Office of Faith Formation at (718) 281-9581. There is no charge, but registration is necessary. Space is limited!
