Emma McGrath, 88, who taught at St. Clare’s School, Rosedale, 1965-2000, died April 8 in Hyde Park, N.Y. She was a native of Brooklyn, born to parents, both of whom were immigrants from Italy.

“Though small in stature, Mrs. McGrath ruled with authority at a time when most of the teachers were nuns,” recalled Elizabeth Zullo, a teacher at St. Clare’s. “She continued to work after her husband, Paul, died in 1987. Even a hip replacement in 1993 could not stop her. She was mighty.”

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 12 in St. Clare’s Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Haas, and sons, Paul, Thomas, and Ronald. Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, L.I.

Luisa Villar, the mother of Father Sabino Estrada, parochial vicar at St. Sebastian’s, Woodside, died April 28.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 2 at St. Sebastian’s Church. Burial was in Pine Lawn Memorial Park, Farmingdale, L.I.
