Three Men Ordained Redemptorist Priests
Three Redemptorist deacons were ordained priests for the order on Saturday, May 10, in the crypt Church of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Washington, D.C. Archbishop Edward J. Gilbert, CSSR, of Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, was the ordaining prelate.
The men are Father Frank Mulvaney, who has been serving as a deacon at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Sunset Park; Father Luyen Dau, and Father Thomas McCluskey.
Father Mulvaney, a native of Media, PA., entered the Redemptorist community in 2001 after working for several years as a clinical psychologist in the Philadelphia area. He received the Washington Theological Union’s Vincent Cushing Student Service Award at graduation, given to the student who best exemplifies hospitality, professionalism, generosity with time and talents, and a spirit of service.
Father Dau entered the congregation in 1998. His family had emigrated from Vietnam to Canada in 1994 where he met the Redemptorists. He has been serving as a deacon in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
Father McCluskey, originally from Bel Air, Md., entered the congregation in 2002 after serving for five years in the United States Marine Corps. In May, 2005, he received the Maryland Citizen of the Year Award from Gov. Robert Ehrlich for pulling a woman engulfed in flames from a burning car after an accident in Bowie, Md.
