Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes

Almost 160 pilgrims from Brooklyn and Queens participated in the diocesan pilgrimage to Lourdes and Paris, France. Under the direction of Father Gerard Sauer, diocesan director of pilgrimages, the group was led by Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Marian apparitions to St. Bernadette Soubirous. Auxiliary Bishop Octavio Cisneros, seen at lower left and right, also participated and led a side trip to Fatima, Portugal. Some pilgrims also visited Rome. In his column, Bishop DiMarzio referred to Lourdes as a place “where the faith is so tangible that you can almost touch it.”
