Edmund’s Equinox Earns Top ASPA Award

The Equinox Editor-in-chief Angelo Landriscina and Assistant Editor Vito Pinto display two of St. Edmund’s ASPA awards.

St. Edmund Prep High School’s literary magazine, The Equinox, received a first place award in the American Scholastic Press Association’s annual magazine competition this year. According to the association, the magazine shows the efforts of talented and creative editors, artists, photographers, layout designers, staff members and advisor.

Susan Moquin, magazine advisor and English teacher at the Sheepshead Bay school, expressed her gratitude “for the students who worked hard to create a great literary magazine.”

“The pieces of work show snapshots of life, representations of the good times and the bad and a journey through the shades of life,” said Angelo Landriscina, editor-in-chief, Prep senior.

Assistant editor and Prep senior, Vito Pinto, believes that his involvement in The Equinox has been crucial to his growth as a person and love for literature.

“To place poetry from other students in the magazine is to listen to the heartbeat and soul of the student body, and it is such a beautiful thing,” Pinto said.
