Papal Honors for Priests

Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio conferred papal honors on 11 priests of the diocese in a solemn evening prayer service in standing-room-only St. James Cathedral-Basilica, Downtown Brooklyn, on Sunday eveing, May 20.


Auxiliary Bishop Frank Caggiano presented the candidates and read the citations.


New monsignors honored as Chaplain of His Holiness

included: Msgr. Joseph Calise, principal of Cathedral Preparatory Seminary, Elmhurst; Msgr. Alfred LoPinto, pastor of St. Therese of Lisieux, East Flatbush; Msgr.

William Maloney, Vicar for Queens South and in residence at St. Pascal Baylon, St. Albans; Msgr. Sean Ogle, Vicar for Queens North, and in residence at Resurrection-Ascension, Rego Park; Msgr. Robert Romano, pastor of St. Bernadette, Dyker Heights; Msgr. Gregory Wielunski, judicial vicar and pastor of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Ozone Park; and Msgr. Peter Zendzian, pastor of Holy Cross, Maspeth.

Three monsignors were honored as Prelates of Honor: Msgr. Peter Kain, pastor, St. Ephrem, Dyker Heights; Msgr. Joseph Nagle, pastor, St. Patrick, Bay Ridge; and Msgr. Joseph Nugent, pastor, Our Lady of the Presentation, Brownsville.

Msgr. Otto Garcia, former Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia and new pastor of St. Joan of Arc, Jackson Heights, received the title of Protonotary Apostolic.
A reception followed in the Pavilion.
