Mass in Honor of St. Pio

Auxiliary Bishop Frank Caggiano celebrated a special Mass in honor of St. Padre Pio at St. Helen Church, Howard Beach, on June 18. The celebration included a procession to the Shrine of St. Pio and a blessing with a first class relic of Padre Pio by Msgr. Richard Marchese, pastor.
Catch a free film or see a play at St. Francis College in Downtown Brooklyn this summer. On Tuesday, July 29, Communicable Arts presents Shakespeare’s comedy, “Much Ado About Nothing,” at 6 p.m. in Founders Hall.

This Week’s Tip of The TabletTalk Top Hat goes to Emily Aabbad, of St. Mark School, Sheepshead Bay, who will receive a special art award from the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York.
Emily’s work was selected as one of 13 winning entries on fire prevention, which will be featured in the FASNY calendar for the 2008-2009 school year.
Five Boy Scouts from Troop 18, Richard Bazant, Jr., Michael J. Borek, Brent R. Good, Anastasios Mirisis and Matthew Morris, were awarded the Eagle Scout Award at a Court of Honor ceremony at St. Fidelis School, College Point, on June 14.
Each has completed 21 merit badges, an Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project and held a leadership position.
Life Scout Daniel Foulds received the Boy Scouts Medal of Merit for performing an outstanding act of service, which in Daniel’s case was a rescue in November 2007.
There is plenty of activity after Sunday Mass at Our Lady of the Angelus in Rego Park.
Dance O’Rama is held every Sunday, 2-4 p.m. in the school basement. Yoga classes are offered every Sunday, except the second Sunday of the month, 3:30-4:45 p.m. in the rectory basement.

The Food Pantry at Our Lady of Grace, Gravesend, has seen a marked increase in demand. During May they served 667 people through their pantry and soup kitchen. They could use donations of peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, canned soups, jelly, and cookies. Give them a call at 718-627-2020.
