Festa del Giglio 2008

Linda Busetti and Ed Wilkinson Photos

For the 121st time, the Giglio Feast in honor of St. Paulinus and Our Lady of Mount Carmel is underway at Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish, Williamsburg. The traditional “dance” of the Giglio was held last Sunday under clear, sunny skies. The three-ton statue, carried by more than 100 men, will be “lifted” again on the final day of the celebration this Sunday, July 20, beginning at 1 p.m. At upper right, Father Joseph Fonti, (below) pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, waves along with the newly assigned pastor, Msgr. Joseph Calise.
