Secular Franciscans on Retreat

Join the diocesan Italian Apostolate on a pilgrimage to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 4 for the dedication of the new Italian Chapel in honor of Our Lady of Pompeii.
Buses depart at 7 a.m. from Our Lady of Hope, Middle Village; St. Pancras, Glendale; St. Luke, Whitestone; Immaculate Conception, Astoria; and St. Mel, Flushing in Queens, and from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Williamsburg; Our Lady of Grace, Gravesend; and St. Rosalia, St. Frances Cabrini, and St. Athanasius, Bensonhurst, in Brooklyn.
After arriving at the basilica around 11 a.m. there will be time for lunch and tours before a 2 p.m. Mass. Return to New York around 10 p.m. Cost is $40. Get in touch with a parish mentioned to sign up for the pilgrimage.
St. Pancras School in Glendale will be celebrating its 100th anniversary with a Gala Dinner Dance on Nov. 1 at Russo’s on the Bay. All are invited, including alumni, former parishioners and faculty.

Join parishioners from St. Mary Gate of Heaven, Ozone Park, on a pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Island, Eastport, L.I., on Sunday Aug. 17.

Most Precious Blood, L.I.C., Women’s Bowling League is looking for bowlers. You do not need to be a great bowler. Bowling league starts Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Maric Lanes in Astoria. On the first night, the league will meet at 7:30 p.m.

The Widowed Support Group at Our Lady of Grace, Gravesend, celebrated its 24th year with a dance at the Rex Manor in Bensonhurst.

The group holds dances, sponsors trips, helps Sister Jane Talbot’s pastoral ministry to feed the homeless, and works at the Christmas Fair.

Sisters for Peace

About 200 Sisters of St. Joseph held a public demonstration for peace on Brentwood Rd. on June 28 as part of their Convocation 2008 at St. Joseph Renewal Center, Brentwood. Three speakers, Sisters Elizabeth Johnson, CSJ; Catherine Nerney, SSJ, and Maria Pascuzzi, CSJ, presented Christian perspectives on ecology, forgiveness and immigrants.
