Orientation for Summer Priests

International priests, who will be working in the diocese during the summer, attended an orientation meeting presented by Msgr. Ronald Marino, diocesan Vicar for Migrant and Ethnic Apostolates, at the diocesan offices in Park Slope on July 19.

A little over a 100 priests were registered for the seminar. They came from as far as India, Nigeria, the Congo-Brazzaville, and other African countries, as well as from Galway, Ireland, and other nations.

Msgr. Marino welcomed the priests on behalf of Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio. “I welcome you my brothers,” Msgr. Marino said. “You help us to be true missionaries.”

Sister Pat Hudson, C.S.J., director of the diocesan Safe Environment Program was also on hand. Sister Pat oversees the VIRTUS program in the diocese.

Each priest was given a packet of information on the work of the Catholic Migration Office, accent reduction classes, translation services and working with the diverse immigrant population of the dioces.
