Sisters Adorers to Remain in Brooklyn

Threatened by an aging population and fewer members, the Sisters Adorers of the Precious Blood in Borough Park is about to receive a needed infusion of new life.

The Sisters Adorers Federation has been asked to send younger sisters to Precious Blood Monastery on Fort Hamilton Pkwy. to bolster the congregation there. A special vocation recruitment campaign also will begin to increase the numbers of the Sisters Adorers.

Precious Blood Monastery, founded more than 100 years ago, is the first Precious Blood Monastery in the United States. The order was the first strictly contemplative community introduced to the diocese by its founder, Mother Catherine Aurelie, in 1889.

“For me, this decision is providential for the pro-life cause for so much innocent unborn blood has been shed in this city since abortion was made legal in 1970,” said Msgr. Philip Reilly, chaplain at the monastery and the director of the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants, a pro-life prayer and counseling apostolate.

“It is fitting and right that there be people in this city who would be constantly making reparation for the 3.7 million unborn babies’ lives that have been unjustly taken in this city.”

The pro-life cause is a special intention of the cloistered sisters who live at Precious Blood Monastery.

Msgr. Reilly added that anyone considering a vocation to the Sisters Adorers can contact him at the monastery at 718-438-6371.
