Rock climbing, extreme trampoline and ultimate Frisbee are just some of the sporting activities teenagers are enjoying at the Summer Teen Scene, presented by Aviator Sports and Recreation at Floyd Bennett Field.

More than a dozen young people from St. Francis de Sales parish, Belle Harbor, enjoyed a recent outing there with pastor Msgr. John Brown.

Teens, grades seven through 12, are invited to the Summer Teen Scene every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday evening, 7 - 10 p.m., through Aug. 25.

The program, which began on July 11, offers various activities, including flag football, soccer, basketball, obstacle courses, foam pit races, gymnastics, ice skating, dodge ball and volleyball.

DJ Mix spins on Wednesdays and live bands rock out on Saturdays. There are also theme nights and karaoke,
Word, a band comprised of students from Xaverian H.S., Bay Ridge, and Xavier H.S., Manhattan, performed on Aug. 4.

The cost is $12 per person, per evening, or $99 for 10 passes.

Teens need a parent or guardian to register before they attend their first Teen Scene.

And now fifth- and sixth-graders can get in on similar activities and events at Summer Tween Scene, on Tuesday evenings, 7 - 9 p.m., through Aug. 28.
Admission is $10 per pre-teen.

Building a bridge between the past and future has been the focus at St. Edmund Prep H.S., Sheepshead Bay, this year as the school celebrates its 75th anniversary.
The school kicked-off its jubilee with an April 21 Mass celebrated at St. Edmund parish by Father Edward Brophy, pastor, who was assisted by Deacon Ron Rizzuto, and followed by a cocktail reception.

Festivities continued on April 27 with a gala event at Terrace on the Park, Flushing Meadows Park. Allison McGinnis, assistant principal, served as master of ceremonies and inaugurated The St. Edmund High School Emmaus Society.

John Lorenzetti, principal, welcomed all in attendance and presented a plaque to the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill, above, who’ve staffed the school since its inception. Sister Dolores Fischer, school librarian, is currently the only Dominican Sister on staff.

Academic Dean and English Chairperson, Ray Malafronte, above, presented a Distinguished Faculty Award to former faculty member Josephine Probo, who taught English at the school for three decades, 1962-1992.

Joan Hodges, wife of late Brooklyn Dodgers baseball player and Mets manager Gil Hodges, received the Distinguished Community Servant Award from Development Director Christopher Wright, above.

Director of Social Fundraising, Alumni Affairs liaison and English teacher, Marie McGoldrick, gave Distinguished Alumni awards to the Alumni Association’s founding officers: Martha Artese Militano ’66, Marie Dunne Lennon ’66, Jane Margotta Marino ’68 and Patricia McLoughlin Cook ’69.

Looking to the future, the school’s accreditation with the Middle States Association was recently renewed and ground was broken on the new Library Media Center building, which will open during the 2007-2008 academic year.
