Crowds Rock and Roll at
Richmond Hill Fundraiser

Father Bill McLaughlin and Holy Child Jesus Teen Drama Club show some canned goods that were donated.
Although it’s usually a quiet neighborhood, Richmond Hill rocked several weeks ago with a Battle of the Bands Fundraiser to benefit the Teen Drama Club of Holy Child Jesus parish. The evening raised $700 to support the club’s early August production of “Thoroughly Modern Millie.”
Around 100 music lovers of all ages crowded into the school gym on Friday night, July 27, to see six bands, including Meridian Drive, showcase their talents live.
Club members, around 40 in all, helped to facilitate the event by coordinating the performers, collecting admission fees and ensuring the comfort of the attendees.
As part of the admission to the show, canned goods were collected and donated to the parish’s food pantry for needy families. Club members collected the items as a way to show their support for the community and thank the community for its continued support.
Paul Morisi, board member of the HCJ Teen Drama Club, expressed his gratitude to all of the club’s supporters, especially the parishioners, The Tablet and Father Bill McLaughlin, parish administrator, for his guidance and help.
Even though this was a “battle of the bands,” no winner was named at the end of the night, Morisi said. “It was all in good fun for a good cause.”
