Celebrate Labor Day at the West Indian American Day Parade along Eastern Parkway on Monday, Sept. 1.


A 9:45 a.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. Matthew Church, 1123 Eastern Parkway, Crown Heights, before the 11 a.m. parade. Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio will ride on a float representing the diocese. Marchers alongside will receive T-shirts and backpacks.

Bethge, of Sacred Heart parish, Glendale, is studying at St. John’s University while at the diocesan seminary at the Immaculate Conception Center, Douglaston.


Young men ages 16-24 are invited to take advantage of the Fatherhood Program sponsored by Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens.


The program offers parenting, budgeting and finance, job readiness workshops, case management, medication and conflict resolution training. The free services are available at 52 Wilson Ave. (basement), Bushwick.

Next summer, sail to San Juan and St. Thomas while supporting a Queen of All Saints, Fort Greene, fundraising event. Come aboard the Carnival Ship Miracle July 11-19, 2009, departing from New York for San Juan, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.


Cost per person (double occupancy) includes meals, port charges, taxes, insurance and gratuities: inside stateroom, $1,620; outside stateroom, $1,750; or stateroom with balcony, $1,930. First payment of $350 is due Nov. 16. For more information, call 718-638-7625.


The Food Pantry at St. Gerard Majella, Hollis, needs volunteers to help on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Tuesdays from 2:30-4 p.m. to pack groceries.
