Five New Eagle Scouts

Five members of Boy Scout Troop 18 of St. Fidelis, College Point, earned the rank of Eagle Scout. From left, Anastasios Mirisis, Matthew Morris, Michael Borek, Brent R. Good and Richard Bazant were congratulated by N.Y. State Senator Frank Padavan. Since 1935, Troop 18 has produced 50 Eagle Scouts. The five Scouts each earned 21 merit badges and conducted projects such as blood and food drives.

Come to the Health Fair at St. Mary Gate of Heaven, Ozone Park, on Sept. 20, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. It is sponsored by the Social Outreach Committee of Queens South – Cluster 1. The focus will be on nutrition and wellness with cooking demonstrations on how to eat healthy. Participants include the American Heart Association, the Diabetes Foundation and information on yoga and Tai Chi.

History Project in Jamaica

Students in the Aquinas Program at Immaculate Conception School, Jamaica, produced a project on the Desegregation of Jamaica 1895-1900, which they shared at CUNY York College, Jamaica. Student Jean Philippe Rancy, holding the report, and teacher Carl Ballenas, accompanied by Professor Victoria Brown Douglas, left, of St. John’s Law School, were given a great welcome by Dr. Marcia V. Keizs, president of York College.
