Irene G. Weiss, 92, mother of Joanne Weiss, secretary to Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, died Aug. 20, peacefully in her home in Millington, N.J.


A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 24 at St. Philomena’s Church, Livingston, N.J.


Born in Newark, Mrs. Weiss lived in Brooklyn and South Orange, before moving to Millington nine years ago.


She had been a faithful volunteer and a Boy and Girl Scout leader at Sacred Heart parish and school, Newark. She worked as a homemaker and Matron for the New York City Fire Dept. from 1961 to 1992.


She was an avid knitter and donated hundreds of hand-knitted winter hats to the homeless and those in need.


She is also survived by her daughters, Lois Worthmann, Maryjane, and her son, Al. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert, a fireman for the City of New York.


Burial was in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Orange, N.J.


Sister Louise Regina Healy, SC, 93, a member of the Sisters of Charity, Halifax, for 76 years, died Aug. 13 at Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley, Mass.


Formerly known as Sister Louise Marillac, she served in Nova Scotia, Quebec, New York and locally at Our Lady Help of Christians, Midwood, 1977-1993. During that time she also visited patients at New York Community Hospital and Kings Highway Hospital. 


Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Needham, MA.
