Good Luck St. Saviour Grads

Administrators, teachers and friends at St. Saviour School, Park Slope, wish the best of luck to their eighth graders, who won scholarships totaling $345,000.

Mark Your Calendars for Junior High School Youth Day
Seventh- and eighth-graders are invited to a Fall Junior High Youth Day, Oct. 13, 12:30 - 7 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Center, Douglaston. The theme is Discover the Way/Descubre el Camino, and the day is sponsored by the Alive in Hope Foundation and the Faith Formation Office. Join your peers for activities, workshops, fellowship, food and Mass, celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop Octavio Cisneros. Father Caleb Buchanan will give the keynote address. Visitation Girls Give Artful Show

Young ladies from Visitation Academy, Bay Ridge, had a royal time as they put on a production of “Once Upon a Mattress,” adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s classic fairy tale, “The Princess and the Pea,” earlier this year.
Principal Arlene Figaro commended the girls and Visitation’s Performing Arts Department, which flourished under Director Karen Peters and Musical Director/Producer Brian P. Worsdale. The production was presented at the Richard Perry Theatre at Poly Prep Country Day School, Bay Ridge.

Newcomers Sandra Mummolo, former assistant principal at Fort Hamilton H.S., will serve as Dean of Faculty and John Ronan, former assistant vice president of Credit Suisse Group, has been named Registrar. "Put Away Your Sword,” drawn from St. John’s Gospel (18: 1-11), is the theme of the 2007 Maryknoll Student Essay Contest for students in grades six to 12. Students are asked to describe a situation in the world today or in their own lives in which Jesus would say, “Put away your sword.” In 500-750 words, students must explain what they’d do to follow Jesus’ command to promote peace instead of violence. Winners will receive nearly $3,000 in scholarships, as well as coverage in Maryknoll magazine and on the Maryknoll Web site. Instructions and cover sheet are available at www.maryknoll.org/essay.
