Italians on Parade

Auxiliary Bishop Frank Caggiano, center, was among the Grand Marshals of the 26th Annual Brooklyn Columbus Day Parade down 18th Avenue in Bensonhurst on Saturday, Oct. 6, along with, from left, Rev. Teri Troia of the New Utrecht Reformed Church, Dr. Nicolette Pallotta and Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. After a 10:15 a.m. Mass at St. Athanasius Church at 61st Street and lunch, the parade, sponsored by the Federation of Italian American Organizations of Brooklyn, stepped off down the avenue on the way to a reviewing stand at 84th Street. The Boy Scouts from St. Athanasius representing Scouting in the diocese, a marching band from Bishop Kearney H.S. as well as parish groups from St. Dominic, Bensonhurst, joined with local public schools and Italian-American sports clubs and language societies in the march past flag-waving residents of the local neighborhoods.
