Principal Arlene Figaro, right, and eighth-grade teacher Carolyn Santangelo, at left, are role models for their new Student Council leaders, from left, Allegra Miccio, Lillie Shulman, Samantha Pezzella and Barbara Wasserman.
The newly elected Student Council officers at Visitation Academy, Bay Ridge, are: Barbara Wasserman, president; Allegra Miccio, vice president; Lillie Shulman, secretary; and Samantha Pezzella, treasurer.
Assisted by Principal Arlene Figaro and eighth-grade teacher Carolyn Santangelo, these young ladies kicked off the year by organizing a “Think Pink Day.” For a nominal fee, students wore pink to school and purchased treats from a bake sale. All proceeds went to benefit breast cancer education and research. This was just the first of many functions this team will organize to benefit the school and various charities in the upcoming year. Initiating an Environmental Club and Drama Club at the school are also on their agenda.

I am grateful for my life. To be alive is something wonderful because there are innocent people who die and young babies who aren’t even born. Since I have life, I am able to experience family and love.
