Walter and Eunice Campbell’s grief at the tragic death of their son, George, in a car accident has been transformed into hope for other children through a scholarship endowed in his name through the diocesan Alive in Hope Foundation. The Campbells, second and third from left, along with family and friends, attended 9 a.m. Mass at Holy Family Church, Canarsie, on Thursday, Nov. 15. After Mass, the Campbells and Father John Amann, pastor, walked over to the Holy Family Campus of Our Lady of Trust School to present checks totaling $10,300 to Thomas Flood, center, director of the Stewardship and Development Office, which oversees Alive in Hope. This gift and about $3,500 donated earlier in the year are the start of a permanently endowed scholarship, named for George K. Campbell, intended to benefit a student at Holy Family. Principal Marylou Reitz and students joined them. Contributions to the George K. Campbell Scholarship can be made by contacting the diocesan Alive in Hope’s Futures in Education Foundation at 718-965-7300 ext. 1605.
