FHA Bestows First Izzo

Leadership Award

Anna Montalto, a senior at Fontbonne Hall Academy, Bay Ridge, has much to be thankful for this fall. She is the recipient of her school’s first Laura Izzo Award. Montalto was selected for this scholarship based on the leadership skills she’s displayed during her high school years. She follows in the footsteps of Laura Izzo, FHA’s Student Council president last year who is currently a freshman at Fordham University, Rose Hill. Montalto, pictured second from right, accepted her award certificate from at left, Sister Dolores Crepeau, C.S.J., school principal, and Rosemarie Izzo, faculty member and donor of the scholarship in her daughter’s honor, and at right, Gilda King, assistant principal.

St. Agnes Girls Reach Out

Juniors Alissa Femia and Soo-Hyun Yoo are just two of many students at St. Agnes Academic H.S., College Point, who volunteer their time and energy several times per month to help feed the hungry at the soup kitchen of Presentation of the BVM parish, Jamaica. St. Agnes students are taught and encouraged to put the tenets of Catholic social teaching as well as the Dominican Charism of preaching the Gospel into practice, both in school and in the wider world community. Students prepare and distribute meals as well as clean up afterward.

St. Edmund’s Walk-A-Thon

Students, faculty and staff of St. Edmund Prep High School, Sheepshead Bay, tied on their sneakers and strolled through beautiful Marine Park for the school’s Eighth Annual Walk-A-Thon under the direction of English teacher Marie McGoldrick.
Students received T-shirts with the school’s 75th anniversary logo, created by computer science teacher Colin Pinnavaia. Walkers received breakfast and enjoyed games after the walk.

I’m grateful that I’m able to live in a country where I have my basic human rights guaranteed. In some countries people have to fight for their rights. I am glad that this has already been done for me.
