Performers Skoppa and Skritla of the National Theatre in Iceland recently entertained children from Catholic Charities’ 20 day care and Head Start programs at the John Oravecz Child Care Center in Greenpoint. Almost 2,000 children enjoyed the pair whose skits explored colors, numbers, letters and rhymes.

The Food Pantry at St. Gerald Majella, Hollis, continues its good work. But it need your help.


Please bring canned fruit and vegetables, tomato sauce, canned tuna, peanut butter, evaporated milk, rice, and cooking cereals after any Mass by leaving bags under tables in the back of church or bring them to the rectory between 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. Monday through Friday or Saturday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.


If you have a few extra hours the Food Pantry can use you on Tuesdays between 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. For more information, call 718-468-6565.


This Week’s Tip of The TabletTalk Top Hat goes to the St. John’s University community who raised $4,000 to benefit the Garden of Dreams Foundation for children with cancer.


Students rallied around Dr. John Dobbins, Jr., associate professor of marketing, who is battling cancer, and his Shoot for a Dream charity event on Nov. 17.


A student three-on-three basketball challenge and Slam Dunk Contest highlighted the evening.


The Cherish Life Circle of the Sisters of Mercy are selling Christmas cards created by an artist on death row. Proceeds benefit children at risk.

The outing provides funds for scholarships. The highlight was the presentation of full scholarships to Timothy McCleary and James Dilg of Cathedral Prep by the Dongan Golf Committee.
