‘Alive in Hope’ Funds Oral History with Senior Priests
The diocesan Alive in Hope Foundation has awarded a grant to the Diocesan Archives from the Bishop Loughlin Fund for Religious Education to be used for a Senior Priest Oral History Project. The Archives will conduct interviews with the senior priests to preserve their recollections, and by so doing to save an important part of diocesan history.
Diocesan Archivist Joseph Coen has named Dr. Patrick McNamara, Assistant Diocesan Archivist, as project director. He will be working closely with Deacon Matthew Oellinger, Senior Priest Director, to coordinate the project.
It will begin by interviewing the residents of the Bishop Mugavero Residence at Immaculate Conception Center, Douglaston, and will later extend to senior priests living outside the residence. It is believed that this will be the most extensive program of its kind ever undertaken by a diocese in the United States.
