The Tablet is printed on 30# newsprint on a high-speed offset cold-web press. Our pages are composed using Macintosh computers and are output on an imagesetter to film at 1200 dots per inch (dpi). The screen ruling used for halftones and other screened material is 85 lines per inch (lpi). We currently use Quark XPress 6.5 for document layout, and Adobe Photoshop for photo scanning and manipulation.

Digital Art and Photos
  1. All digital art and photo files used in your document must be included as separate documents along with the document you want us to output. Photos should be saved as .tif or .eps files at a minimum of 200 dpi resolution. Process color photos should be saved as CMYK .tif files or, if you prefer as DCS files. Line art should be scanned at 800 dpi resolution.

  2. As you may know, newsprint is an extremely porous medium. As a result, we experience a 30% dot gain from film output to final product. For the best results, adjust your photographs accordingly.

Fonts
  1. Please remember to include all fonts used in your document on your disk. If you use Type 1 fonts in your document, remember to include both the screen (bitmap) and printer (postscript) files.

  2. If your advertisement includes graphics created in a vector-based drawing program like Adobe Illustrator or Freehand, please convert all fonts used in the paths before exporting as an .eps file.

Text Files
    If you are including text-only files for insertion into an ad, or as a press release, please save them as either a WordPerfect document with the extension .txt, or as a Microsoft Word document with the extension .doc. DO NOT insert graphics or photos into documents created on word processing programs, such as WordPerfect. Photos or graphics embedded into the files in this manner will not translate for use with Quark Xpress, and renders the text files unreadable as well. When e-mailing, DO NOT send .mim files, as we are unable to open them or import them into Quark Xpress. Similarly, documents created in other word processing programs may be unreadable and /or unworkable.
Accepted Media

    If you need to compress files, please create self-extracting (SEA) files.

    DO NOT use JPEG compression.

Proofs
  1. Please supply a printed proof of the ad you are submitting. We cannot check for accuracy in the ad if we do not have something to compare digital files to. If a digital proof is not supplied, one will be supplied by The Tablet at a nominal cost.

  2. We would like to keep the supplied disk until the job is printed; we understand that this may not always be possible. Please let us know the latest possible return date on all disks.

We understand that there will be "exceptions and limitations" to the above and will be glad to discuss these with the individual client on an "as needed" basis.

The Tablet can not be responsible for missing copy, color, font defaults or other files errors in digitally-supplied ads.
